Biography

Professor Cotton is Head of the Scholars Program at the Mastercard Foundation. Prior to this he was granted secondment from his University of Glasgow post to serve as Vice Chancellor of the University of Rwanda until the end of his tenure in October 2020. Immediately prior to this he was Principal of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences in the University of Rwanda.

At Glasgow he was based in General Practice and Primary Care and served as deputy head of the Undergraduate Medical School and academic director of Vocational Studies. He led student welfare in the Medical School, served on several School and University committees and led the university's fair trade steering group.

While at the University he was a GP in Springburn, and volunteer doctor for Freedom from Torture (Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture). He is a director of St Andrew's Clinics for Children (STACC).
