Biography

James graduated  from the University of Glasgow Dental school in 2000 (BDS) with commendation.

After completing vocational training in Coatbridge he worked as an NHS General Dental Practitioner in the same practice until 2005.

James then spent 2 years in Queensland, Australia working between Private General Dental Practice and the Government dental service, mainly in Brisbane.

On returning to Scotland, James worked within the Community, and Salaried dental service, within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde before obtaining a post as a Senior Dental officer and outreach tutor in 2008.

Whilst in this position James completed a MSc ( dent Sci) with distinction in primary dental care, with an interest in endodontics at the University of Glasgow, graduating in 2010.

James moved to a full time position as a  Senior lecturer in Restorative dentistry at the University of Glasgow , with the role of Undergraduate outreach coordinator in 2017. As part of this new role, he completed a Pg cert in Academic Practice.

In 2024 James became the Final year lead and Outreach coordinator. He also chairs the Longitudinal Clinical Development Panel, and has roles within the mentor program, and as a pastoral support advisor at the Dental school.

James was asked to be Co deputy Head of Dental school in 2022, and is a member of the Dental school executive committee.
