Study Design
Paediatric CD patients are recruited into the study if they have responded well to their treatment with EEN, and we follow them for the first 3 weeks of reintroducing solid foods back into their diet. During this 3-week period, patients wear a proprietary sensor on their arm which continuously measures cytokines in their sweat. Meanwhile, they collect stool and urine samples every 3 days and write down everything that they are eating and drinking in a food diary. Blood samples are collected during their hospital appointments when they are recruited and at the end of the study. We will test the association between the concentration of inflammatory markers in sweat with what we measure in stool and plasma, both used for standard clinical practice. We also monitor the foods that these children are eating during this 3-week period, to explore whether dietary intake is related to the changes in these faecal, plasma, and sweat cytokines.
