Professor Marc Wijnen
Marc Wijnen has been a paediatric surgeon in the Netherlands since 2000. From 2014, he has been working in the only comprehensive paediatric cancer centre, The Princess Maxima Centre for Paediatric Oncology in Utrecht. His research focuses on image guide surgery and how to diminish complications.
Dr Nicola Thorp
Nicky Thorp is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and holds an honorary Consultant post at the Christie Proton Beam Therapy Centre, specialising in paediatric radiotherapy and late effects. Her research interests are focussed on paediatric brain tumours and radiotherapy quality assurance. She is UK radiotherapy lead for the SIOP Ependymoma trial. She is a member of the NHSE Proton Panel and a member of the SIOPE Radiotherapy group. She is past Chair of the CCLG Brain Tumour and the Radiotherapy Specialist Interest Groups.
Nicky is the current Medical Director for Professional Practice for the Royal College of Radiologists and is Clinical Oncology co-lead for wellbeing and support.
Mr Michael Jacovides
Michael trained as a paediatric surgeon in Edinburgh and Glasgow. After spending time as an international Fellow in Paediatric Surgical Oncology at the Princess Maxima Center in Utrecht, he took up post as a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. His main areas of interest are Paediatric Surgical Oncology and Innovation. Michael is currently combining both these areas of interest, working within a small group in Glasgow on the use of printed and 3D models in the pre-operative planning of complex oncology cases. The aspiration is to be able to use such models intra-operatively.
