‌Professionalism Concerns

It is understood that issues experienced by students in undergraduate training can follow or resurface in their working lives as doctors. 

Should concerns be raised about a student’s ability to adhere to the statements in the Student Agreement, it is usual for support to be offered to try and remedy the issues that are impacting on the student’s conduct. 

In determining the most appropriate support or outcome, the School is informed by the GMC’s guidance, ‘Medical students: professional values and fitness to practise’. 

The Medical School keeps a Professionalism Concerns Register of students who have have had concerns raised about them. This is a register of concerns that does not automatically constitute referral to a Fitness to Practise investigation. Any student who appears on this register will be in receipt of a letter from the Medical School. 

In addition, the School mantains a Raising Concerns portal through which students or staff can alert the School to any incident that they have experienced or witnessed and which concerns them.
