Admissions to the MBChB degree programme Partner Medical Schools:
St Andrews University, the University Brunei Darussalam and the International Medical University (IMU) in Malaysia
Your first year – MBChB Year 3
Students entering the MBChB Course from Universities of St Andrews, IMU (International Medical University, Malaysia) and UBD (University Brunei Darussalam) will join Glasgow Medical students at the start of the third year of the MBChB course.
A guide for students, tutors and clinical staff can be found here.
Introductory Course
The Medical School will email you with all the essential information about starting the programme once the numbers and the contact details of the transfer students are confirmed by the partner schools (likely in July-August 2025). The Medical School will also arrange a welcome/integration event prior to commencing Phase 3 in September. This Academic Year’s 2025-2026 Welcome Event is planned for Sunday 31 August 2025, please save the date!
Year 3 will commence with Week 0 (Induction week), followed by an 11 week-long Phase 3 designed to introduce you to pathology-based clinical course. In the first term of Year 3 we will deliver clinical procedural skills and communication skills and allocate you to attend three/four GP and hospital teaching days.
Students from IMU/UBD will have colloquial English classes in the same induction/integration week and we will introduce you to your MedicFamilies to help transition/integration.
The second term comprises mostly of bedside teaching in one of the major central hospitals in Glasgow. We have scheduled ‘Transition to Phase 4’ week, to instruct you about the code of conduct on the wards as well as learn Advance Life Support.
We strive to ensure your transition to Glasgow course is as smooth as possible and you are learning as efficient and productive as it can be.
If you want to familiarise yourselves with the content of our Years 1 & 2 programme over the summer and compare with the syllabi from your own institutions, the Year 1 syllabus and Year 2 syllabus links below will take you to each year’s Intended Learning Outcomes. Our course content from early years will largely align with the curriculum from the partner medical Schools (harmonised each year) and covers basic Biomedical Sciences, system by system.
It is also a good idea to familiarise yourself with the Main University webpage, where you can find a plethora of useful information about Glasgow, student life or the student societies, student representative council, accommodation and such.
It might also be of interest to you to read about major discoveries by our internationally renowned scientists working in research-intensive schools that form our College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (the Undergraduate Medical School is part of the College of MVLS). This may come in handy if you want to get involved with research, in pursue of SSC or Electives projects!
