1. How do I apply?
All applications must be made online through UCAS before the closing date of 15 October in the year prior to that of intended entry.

2. Is the UCAT test required?
All applicants are required to undertake the UCAT test in the year of application.  The test is used to help universities to select applicants with the most appropriate abilities and professional behaviours required for dentists to be successful in their clinical careers. All applicants will be ranked on the basis of their UCAT score, the percentile cut-off point varies from year to year and is not released by the Dental School during the application cycle.

3. Do you accept resits?
Qualifications must be obtained at the first sitting, this applies to all qualifications, from all countries and exam bodies; we are unable to consider applications based on retaken examinations.

4. Do you consider re-applications?
We do accept reapplications.

5. Can I apply for deferred entry?
Applications for deferred entry will not be considered.

6. Do you accept applications from graduates?
The Dental School considers applications from graduates who have the equivalent of a 2.1 honours degree in a relevant subject and will ask that they demonstrate the equivalence of Chemistry and Biology (Grade A, A Level/Higher) and Maths or Physics (Grade B, GCES/Higher), obtained within the last 6 years.

7. Do you consider transfers?
The Dental School has a strict policy of not considering applications from students already studying at another institution, either to transfer into the course or to restart 1st year.

8. I am an International Student, can I apply?
We welcome applications from international students. However please note that the University is neither responsible for, nor in a position to offer, entry in to the Scottish dental workforce following successful completion of the BDS programme.

9. How many places do you have for students from the Rest of the UK?
The Scottish Funding Council sets the number of places for controlled subjects, like Dentistry. For entry in September 2023, our target intake for applicants from the Rest of the UK (ie England, Wales and Northern Ireland) was 14.

10. Is any Health Clearance required?
All potential undergraduate dental students must undergo health clearances for Blood Borne Virus before acceptance onto the course. Successful candidates will be advised of how to take this forward. Further details can be found here

11. What Work Experience should I have?
No work shadowing is required for September 2024 entry.

12. Do I require a portfolio to demonstrate my manual dexterity?
We do not require a portfolio for entry and no examples should be brought to interview.

13. What are the fees for Dentistry?
Information about fees can be found here

14. Is any financial support available for students?
Eligible offer holders may apply for the Tristan Manji Talent Scholarship for their first year of study only.
In the following years, eligible students can apply for the Dental Student Support Grant.

15. What will the interview be like?
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview designed to assess the applicant’s non-cognitive skills.

Successful candidates will recieve further details by email.

16. When will I be told if I have been made an offer of a place?
All decisions are normally made by the end of March and applicants will be informed through UCAS.

17. Can I visit the Dental School?
At present, we are not able to offer tours of the Dental School.

18. Who can I contact if I have any other questions?
