(iii) Other Mucosal Lesions
Assessing patients for potential malignancy and malignancy requires a high index of suspicion. Remember, however, that many non-cancerous conditions and systemic diseases may present with oral mucosal changes. Here are some examples:
1. Major recurrent aphthous ulcer of the soft palate | 2. Trauma to the lateral margin of the tongue. | 3. Pyogenic granuloma of the buccal mucosa. |
4. Lichen planus of the buccal mucosa. | 5. Lupus erythematosus of the buccal mucosa. | 6. Necrotising sialometaplasia of the soft palate. |
7. Lichenoid eruption on dorsal surface of the tongue. | 8. Pseudomembranous candidosis of the buccal mucosa. | 9. Fibroepithelial polyp of the buccal mucosa. |
