Dental Student Paul Gallacher has won Goal of the Round while representing the University of Glasgow in the first round of football’s William Hill Scottish Cup
Dental Student Paul Gallacher’s second minute, 30 yard goal has been awarded Goal of the Round in the first round of football’s William Hill Scottish Cup. Despite Gallacher’s excellent start to the match it wasn’t enough to prevent the University of Glasgow’s eventual hard fought 3-1 defeat by Gala Fairydean, preventing Glasgow’s advance to the next round.
The Dental School were also represented on the University of Glasgow team by Ross Gallacher, Dominic Lamont, and Kevin Colgan. Glasgow had held Fairydean to 1-1 at halftime but were eventually defeated by two late goals after missing many chances. The Glasgow team were satisfied that they gave a good account of themselves and are already looking forward to next season. The news of the award for Paul Gallacher helped soften the blow.
There had been much anticipation in the build-up to the game as Sky Sports sent a camera crew to the Dental School to see our students in action before their big game. They were treated to a demonstration of our students’ clinical techniques skills. A two minute report appeared on Sky Sports TV that Saturday, with Dominic Lamont describing the match as “the opportunity of a lifetime”
