Episode One - On the Origins of the MSc: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants
In 1984 Dr. Douglas Wilcox, an Honorary NHS Consultant in medical genetics, was a member of the team that created the MSc medical genetics programme at the University of Glasgow. Its aim was to train the next generation of clinicians, research and diagnostic scientists.
As the MSc expanded Dr. Wilcox went on to become the first programme director. He saw each student as an individual and encouraged them to be their best.
Although he retired in 2011, Dr. Wilcox’s legacy endures as the programme grows each year.
