Description: Are you redesigning your assessments and rethinking your learning outcomes as generative AI technologies advance? Do you wish to learn more about methods to incorporate into your own teaching?
This free event, hosted by the Statistics and Data Analytics Education group at the University of Glasgow and organised as part of the IMA, LMS & RSS Higher Education Teaching and Learning Workshop Series 2023/24 aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from the mathematical sciences and STEM to discuss key challenges and opportunities around the sudden influx of generative AI. We aim to find effective ways to test learning outcomes and prepare students to enter this dynamic, modern world.
The workshop will consist of a series of keynote talks and demonstrations on adapting assessment approaches in the mathematical sciences. This will include topics such as:
- Creating innovative assessment strategies
- Future innovations and AI-collaborative assessment frameworks
- Promoting creativity and critical thinking
- Unbiased assessments, ethics and unintended consequences
- Modernizing learning outcomes
- Insights into running an online distance learning masters
There will also be two sessions consisting of lightning talks and related round table discussions offered by attendees at the workshop who would like to share their experiences or ideas related to novel assessment approaches.
Attendees are invited to propose a short talk in the following areas:
- Novel assessment approaches, particularly focussing on maintaining basic learning outcomes or incorporating generative AI
- Creating take-home assessments
- Reviewing learning outcomes in times of generative AI
- Open session - propose a topic of your choice!
This workshop will operate as an in-person event to encourage networking. Attendance is free but numbers are limited, and we anticipate the event will be very popular. Therefore, we recommend registering as early as possible. You can register for the event here.
In this form, you can propose a short talk for the lightning sessions, which we strongly encourage. This can be on any topic relating to strategies in assessment. These talks can be as general as you wish, and we mainly aim to encourage active discussion between delegates.
A final agenda for the day will be circulated to attendees nearer the time.
