Glasgow Dental School and the Glasgow Dental Alumnus Association have joined forces with a number of stakeholders including the Maclaurin Society (MacSoc) to create a World Record Breaking smile.

MacSoc is the University of Glasgow Mathematics and Statistics Society. Named after the Scottish mathematician Colin MacLaurin, they have been around since the 1950s and aim to create a friendly and supportive atmosphere for students through a wide range of social and academic events.

On the afternoon of Friday 9th June the Dental School hopes to produce the world’s largest smile in a piece of mass participation art at the SEC. MacSoc have taken on the teeth grinding challenge to design a solution to assembling 1000 people into a world class smile.

This fun-filled public engagement event, focusing on oral health promotion, will be split into two parts. First, they will create the carefully assembled 1000-person strong smile, followed by a concert to be played by the Glasgow Dental School Big Band plus guests under the baton of the band-leader, BDS 2015 alumnus, Callum Wemyss.

In the meantime, save the date of Friday 9th June and sign up today to be a record breaker at www.cpdscotland.org/big-smile-big-band/.

Participation in the event costs just £5 for adults and it is free for under 16s. Each participant will receive a copy of the official Guinness World Record certificate.
