Success for the School
The Herald Higher Education Awards, in association with University of the West of Scotland celebrates the extraordinary things that are going on in our universities and colleges, day in, day out. These awards recognise the high standard of education that is offered throughout Scotland, and the level of learning that is produced every year.
The awards ceremony, attended by Professor Ian Strachan and Dr Andrew Wilson, took place on Thursday 14th July 2016 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow at which the School of Mathematics and Statistics won the Innovation Technology Excellence Award, 2016. Ian said:
“The award for our School was for the work we have done in developing online teaching and assessment in Levels 1 and 2. This is very much a team award including academic staff, and the teaching administration and IT staff, who have all contributed to the project. This award – on top of the 2014 College award and the 2015 University award – is testament to all the hard work that everybody has put into this project.”
Congratulations to all who have been involved with this project over the years – congratulations and well done!
The University of Glasgow did extremely well, winning six awards, and was named the HE Education Institute of the Year for a second year running.
The University was successful in five other categories:
- Higher Education Institution of the Year
- Student Support Team of the Year: Counselling and Psychological Service
- Outstanding Contribution from a Student: Claudia Wasige; Fergus Taylor was Commended
- Research Project of the Year: Gravitational Waves (with the University of Strathclyde)
- Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community: Superhero Science Aspects of A.W.E.S.O.M.E.
