As usual, there is an update on many of the different activities which staff in the School are involved in, and which I hope you will find interesting. In this edition we are starting what we hope will become a new series, entitled Spotlight. The idea is to interview staff to find out what they do in a little more detail. Those readers from outside the School may be surprised to see the range of things that are going on. The initial Spotlight article is an interview with Colin Torney, a recently appointed lecturer in Applied Mathematics. Some might find drones, helium balloons and trips to both the Arctic and Africa a surprise, but there we are - that’s where the mathematical sciences can take you!
