Meeting of the LMS network

The ISMP group hosted a meeting on “Frobenius structures and relations” in Glasgow on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd March 2018. The meeting was a part of collaborative workshop series on Classical and Quantum Integrability supported by LMS and GMJT. Co-organiser Dr Misha Feigin said:

“Speakers came from Germany, Italy, Mexico and the UK and we had very fruitful discussions on quite a variety of topics such as Frobenius manifolds and related integrable systems, quantum cohomology, orthogonal polynomials, combinatorics. Two PhD students from the ISMP group gave talks as well, and slides from most talks are available at http://www.maths.gla.ac.uk/~mf/LMSworkshops/LMSGlasgow2018/index.html.”

EPSRC Early Career Forum

The EPSRC early career forum took place in Glasgow, within the School of Mathematics & Statistics, on Tuesday 27th March.

The forum is a way for EPSRC to interact with researchers in the early stages of their career in order to share information on EPSRC policy and process. It is also an opportunity for early career researchers to network with colleagues from across the country, interact with senior academics that have a strong connection to EPSRC and to discuss future EPSRC strategy related to the Mathematical Sciences.

Dr Dimitra Kosta is the School’s representative on the EPSRC Early Career Forum in Mathematics. Among the things that were discussed at the forum in Glasgow were the peer review process, the role of the SAT, the role of UKRI-EPSRC council and a facilitated discussion on alternative sources of funding. The agenda and the accompanying documents will appear on the ECR wiki in due course. In the meanwhile, please let Dimitra know if you wish to discuss anything about the meeting or have queries about EPSRC or their grants.

Quantum integrability and quantum Schubert calculus

Christian Korff with Vassily Gorbounov (Aberdeen) will host the “Theo Murphy international scientific meeting” at The Royal Society at Chicheley Hall, Buckinghamshire from Monday 11th and Wednesday 13th June 2018. For more information, please visit the event webpage at the following link:

https://royalsociety.org/science-events-and-lectures/2018/06/quantum-integrability/

There is a new direction in Schubert calculus, which links the Yang-Baxter equation, the central equation in quantum integrable systems, to problems in representation theory that have their origin in enumerative geometry. This will be a cross-disciplinary meeting that brings together researchers of different career stages and from different areas in mathematics for a mix of talks and focused discussion rounds.
