Viva success

Andrey Melnikov successfully defended his thesis on December 20th. Andrey's thesis title is "Stability Analysis of Dielectric Elastomer Actuators". He was supervised by Raymond W Ogden.

Amira El-Ayouti successfully defended her thesis on Monday 16th January. Amira's research was on statistical modelling of rivers and river networks. Amira’s PhD thesis is entitled “Time & Frequency domain statistical methods for high-frequency Time Series”. She was supervised by Marian Scott OBE and Claire Miller (née Ferguson).

2017 Joint Mathematics Meetings

PhD student Alan McLeay gave an invited talk in a Special Session at the Joint Mathematics Meeting (the largest maths conference in the US) in Atlanta from Wednesday 4th to Saturday 7th January. Alan’s talk was entitled “Ivanov's Metaconjecture: Automorphism Groups of Sufficiently Rich Complexes of Regions for Surfaces with Punctures”.
