Welcome to the December edition of the newsletter of the School of Mathematics & Statistics. The articles in this edition indicate the huge range of activities in which staff and students from the School are involved. Teaching and research lie at the heart of what we do, but several of the articles show how strongly we are engaged with the wider world.

One of the biggest issues for us at the moment is the move to a new building. The top photograph, in the collage of images below, shows the"topping out ceremony" for our current building in 1968. (Can anyone identify any of the University representatives?) The  photograph beneath that shows the construction of our new building. The basic structure is due to be in place before Christmas, with "fit-out" in January/February and a phased move to the new premises over the Easter vacation. Exciting times ahead!
