Publications list

So far this year researchers from the School of Mathematics and Statistics have produced more than 114 journal papers and conference proceedings which are available on Enlighten. A complete list of these papers is available by clicking here [internal only].

Mathematical Component

An interesting book "Mathematical Component" was recently composed which describes and demonstrates various manifestations and use of mathematics in the outside world and it is aimed at general audience. The book is initially written and published in Russian and has been nominated to the "Enlightener prize" for non-fiction literature in the natural and exact sciences category. English translation of the book is planned. The School’s very own Dr Misha Feigin contributed an article on sound waves propagation to the book.

Further information about the Enlightener prize is available at http://www.dynastyfdn.com/english/programs/popular/non-fiction-prize.

Deleting edges to restrict the size of an epidemic

Deleting edges to restrict the size of an epidemic: a new application for treewidth, with Jessica Enright (Stirling), accepted to the 9th Annual International Conference on Combinatorial Optimization and Applications (Kitty's co-author will present this paper at the conference in Houston in December).

The illustration on the left is from a talk Kitty gave about this paper, during the summer.

S. D. Cohen, Emeritus Professor, was involved in the following publications:

(with T Oliveira e Silva and T Trudgian) “On consecutive primitive elements in a finite field,” Bull. London Math. Soc. 47 (2015), 418 - 426.

(with T Oliveira e Silva and T Trudgian)  “A proof of the conjecture of Cohen and Mullen on sums of primitive roots,” Mathematics of Computation 84 (2015), 2979 - 2986

(with T Oliveira e Silva and T Trudgian)  “On Grosswald's conjecture on primitive roots,” arXiv: 1506.02548,   to appear in Acta Arithmetica.

(with S U Hasan, D Panario and Q Wang) “An asymptotic formula for the number of irreducible transformation shift registers,” Linear Algebra and Its Applications 484 (2015), 46 - 62.
