Distinguished Lecture Series

The Distinguished Lecture Series features several prestigious named lectures, including the Rankin-Sneddon Lectures, the Bowman Lectures, and the Mitchell Lectures, as well as other occasional high-profile lectures. The Distinguished Lecture Series dates as far back as 1925, when the Mitchell Lectures were founded following a generous endowment.

Over the years, this series has drawn eminent speakers renowned in the fields of mathematics and statistics, including Fellows of the Royal Society such as Prof Sir Michael Atiyah (Edinburgh), Prof Christl Donnelly (Oxford/Imperial College London), Prof Robert MacKay (Warwick), Prof John Hinch (Cambridge), Prof John Ockendon (Oxford), Prof Akshay Venkatesh (Princeton), Prof Sir David Spiegelhalter (Cambridge), and others.

The Bowman Lecture series is particularly intended to appeal to the wider public through its popular lectures given by high-profile speakers in a range of sectors, including Ken McCallum (Director General of MI5), Chris Stark and Keith Bell (UK Committee for Climate Change), and Chris Wiggins (Chief Data Scientist, New York Times).
