Abstract
Mathematical and numerical methods can be used in many ways as tools to model biological systems. There are many excellent models that help us predict situations that range from the pharmacodynamics of specific drugs to the behaviour of biological oscillators in individual cells. And yet we still miss comprehensive models that help us path the course of complex diseases from the molecular level up to the organic level. What is missing? And how can we chart a path to a better modelling of disease and go in the direction of predictive medicine? In this talk I shall describe a basic approach to study small avascular tumors, and use the knowledge thus gained to step forward.
