Abstract
Living tissues like tendons, bones and arteries not only have superb mechanical properties, they are also able to adapt and tune these properties to changes in mechanical demands. Mechanobiology is vital to understand how this homeostatic process works in healthy tissue, and why it goes wrong leading to diseases such as tendinopathy, osteoporosis and aneurysm.
