Abstract
There has recently been a very fruitful interplay between algebraic
structures (RKS correspondences, Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns, Whittaker functions,
Macdonald polynomials etc.) and probabilistic models (in particular, those within
the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class). In this talk I will review the proba-
bilistic goals and show how understanding their underlying algebraic / integrable
structure helps in achieving these. Along the way, I will also try to explain how
new viewpoints of algebraic structures emerge. The main example will be the ran-
dom polymer model, its asymptotic convergence towards the Airy process and its
relations to the above mentioned algebraic objects.
