Abstract
If Y is an L-space obtained by surgery on a knot K in S^3, then Ozsvath and Szabo have shown that the Heegaard Floer homology of Y is determined by the surgery coefficient and the Alexander polynomial of K. I will talk about results in the other direction, and explain how, under certain circumstances, we can determine the Alexander polynomial of K from the manifold Y and the surgery coefficient. I will also discuss how these results can be used to determine characterizing slopes for torus knots.
