The Dynamics and the Heating of Solar Coronal Loops
Dr. Mahboubeh Asgari-Targhi (Harvard University)
Thursday 27th March, 2014 14:00-15:00 Maths 326
Abstract
It was realised many years ago that the solar corona is much hotter than the underlying photosphere. It is clear from observations and modelling that magnetic fields play an important role in the heating process of the corona. The energy is transported into the corona via magnetic structures in the lower atmosphere. In this talk I briefly describe the two competing theories of coronal heating; nanoflare heating and the wave heating and I explain in detail the Alfven Wave Turbulence modelling of the solar coronal loops.
