Abstract
Several existing results for norms of elementary operators on a C*-algebra A depend crucially on the existence of an identity element. This leads to the study of the ideal structure of the multiplier algebra M(A) in the case where A itself is non-unital. We discuss this in the context of C_0(X)-structures on A, which give rise to natural questions of `spectral synthesis'. This is joint work with Douglas Somerset (Aberdeen).
