Abstract
The non-linear theory of elastodynamics applies to the study of pressure inside stressed arteries and is a relatively new field of interest. Without going into much of the cumbersome details of the theory, I will talk about the case of a thick-walled incompressible tube (which models the arteries) with residual stress. Residual Stress means the stress which is generate in the arteries or vessels due to the process of growth or high blood pressure. So when the cause of this stress actually recedes, the walls of the arteries are still stressed. This means all the tensors representing various quantities related to the material of the arteries or vessels should bear the effect of this residual stress. The pressure (used to inflate) and the axial load (used to extend) the tube is calculated and graphical results will show the change in pressure and axial load (with residual stress) in comparison to when the residual stress is not present.
