An introduction to quantum random walks

Abstract
This talk will explain the basic theory of quantum random walks, which are also known as non-commutative Markov chains. The motivation for investigating these objects comes from physics, but the contents of the talk will be mathematical. Techniques from the theory of operator spaces are employed to construct the random walks; quantum stochastic calculus is used to describe the limit processes which result after suitable scaling, in the same manner in which Brownian motion may be obtained from a classical random walk.
