The degenerate affine Hecke algebra

Abstract
We will discuss a generalization of the group algebra of the symmetric group S_N. One representation of this can be realized using differential operators (Dunkl operators) acting on a certain class of smooth functions in N variables; another representation is obtained by using so-called divided-difference (Lusztig-Demazure) operators acting on polynomials in N indeterminates. Both classes of operators have applications in theoretical physics. Prerequisites: (basic) group theory, functions of more than one variable, polynomials.
