Abstract
In 1985, Bousfield described the K-local stable homotopy category at an odd prime with algebraic data. This has later been extended by Franke to construct an equivalence between the K-local stable homotopy category and the derived category of an abelian category. Even though such an algebraic model can never be equivalent to the standard one in terms of all higher homotopies, it is still interesting to see how much homotopy information it captures. We will explain these results and put them in context with current work in progress on the classification of possible algebraic models.
