Wednesday 12th February 11:00-12:00 Maths 311B

Abstract

This lecture explores the concept of characteristic age or alpha-age, a novel approach introduced to enhance our understanding of population ageing and its implications. We will delve into its relevance to the broader concept of healthy ageing, which emphasizes not just lifespan but the quality of life in older adults. Findings from the EU HORIZON2020 ATHLOS project will be presented, revealing new approaches to analyzing ageing trajectories across diverse populations around the world. The discussion will highlight how these insights can inform public health strategies aimed at promoting healthy aging and addressing the challenges of a definitely ageing society.
