Abstract
In this talk, I will present a tour of what we know about the Sun and what remains a frustrating and fascinating mystery. I will also briefly explain why many traditional models do not stack up in many ways. Finally, I will lay out a new (and perhaps slightly heretical) arrangement of observational evidence: that the solar cycle begins in the outer 5-10% of the interior with the Magneto-Rotational Instability (the MRI, a well-established and prominent effect for astrophysical accretion disks).
