Abstract
The local Langlands correspondence (LLC) is a kaleidoscope of conjectures relating representations of p-adic groups, local Galois theory, and the theory of complex Lie groups. I'll talk about the notion of depth within this correspondence and aspects of the positive-depth part of the LLC that remain mysterious. Within this framework, a construction of Reeder--Yu shows that if we understand orbits in certain representations of finite groups, we can build new positive-depth representations of p-adic groups. I'll talk about my recent results describing these orbits, as well as where they fit into the LLC. Throughout the talk, I'll focus on examples, and will not assume prior knowledge of p-adic groups.
