The notion of (co)bordism between manifolds has played an important part in geometric topology and in stable homotopy theory. I will explain how the calculation of bordism groups can be addressed using methods of stable homotopy theory. As a particular example I will discuss the especially challenging case of symplectic/quaternionic bordism (despite the name this has nothing to do with symplectic geometry). This will be a survey talk which graduate students may find helpful in providing background knowledge.
