Abstract

Lymph nodes are organs scattered all across the lymphatic network and their function is to filter the lymph and break down bacteria, viruses, and waste; these substances are transported inside the lymph nodes thanks to the lymph. Despite its importance, few models try to describe the behavior of the lymph from a mechanical point of view. In this talk, we propose a mathematical model for the flow of the interstitial fluid in a lymph node, which main feature is the presence of a porous bulk region, surrounded by a thin channel where the fluid can flow freely.
