Abstract

The aim of this talk is to explain why algebraic geometers and those studying geometric representation theory (geometric algebraists?) like moduli spaces so much. I'll describe why quiver moduli spaces provide an especially nice way to view some classical moduli spaces, including the Grassmannian and the Hilbert scheme of points in the plane.  I'll then describe what we learned about the Hilbert scheme of points on the simplest singular surfaces, also known as the ADE singularities, in recent joint work with Gamelgaard, Gyenge and Szendr\H{o}i. If time permits, I'll touch on the results of our follow-up project on Quot schemes.
