Abstract
Lyotropic chromonic liquid crystals (LCLC) exhibit a variety of morphologies in phase transitions that arise as the result of interplay between surface energy and bulk elasticity. I will discuss a simple model that recovers experimentally observed shapes of toroidal aggregates of the columnar phase in LCLC. This is a joint work with Carme Calderer, Runa Koizumi, Oleg Lavrentovich, and Shawn Walker.
