VIRTUAL SEMINAR SERIES -- INTEGRABLE SYSTEMS: On particle-like solutions of the two-dimensional Toda lattice

Abstract

The point of departure will be a general approach to solution formulas for integrable systems going back to work of Marchenko on the one side and Banach space geometry on the other. After a short introduction, we will report on the struggle for an adequate solution formula to the 2-D-Toda lattice. This will give us a first opportunity to discuss algebraic properties of the occurring matrix parameters. Then we will move towards construction and qualitative study of solutions, presenting some remarkable new solutions and a “program” towards a systematic understanding of the underlying phenomena. Most of the talk is based on joint work with Tomas Nilson.
