Abstract
I will describe Givental's quantisation formalism, a powerful language for working with Gromov-Witten invariants, and explain how it is related to a Floer-theoretic version of S^1-equivariant Tate cohomology of loop space. (This connection was first observed by Morava.) I will then describe recent work by Nabijou, building on older work by Braverman, that gives a simple and beautiful construction of the "Givental cone" in terms of relative Gromov--Witten theory. This will be a survey talk: nothing here is new.
