Averaging Systems and Fractal Graphs

Abstract
Having the right definition of “big” and “small” is a common problem in mathematics. What does it mean for a property to be “common” or “typical”, and are such properties nice, or are they badly behaved? We will apply these ideas to the graphs of functions. Is a typical function smooth or is it jagged and unruly? Are we able to smooth out the badly-behaved parts and obtain a more appealing answer? In my talk I will explain some of these ideas and reveal just how unpleasant/interesting such functions can really be.
