Abstract

AIMS (African Institute for Mathematical Sciences) is a pan-African network of centres of excellence for postgraduate education, research and outreach in mathematical sciences.  The students at AIMS come from all sort of backgrounds. The majority from maths and physics, while others come from statistics, engineering and computer science.

Last January, I travelled to Cameroon to teach a three-week course in Advanced Data Analysis and Data Visualisation. The course consisted of 2-hour classes for six days a week with weekly assignments and quizzes. In this (non-statistical) talk I will highlight some of my experiences and challenges in teaching at AIMS Cameroon and also point out the tutor/lecturer opportunities that may be of interest.
