Abstract

The School of Mathematics and Statistics is delighted to invite you to its Mitchell Lecture 2024 on Data Science at the New York Times to be given by Chris Wiggins (Chief Data Scientist, New York Times). This lecture is a part of the Distinguished Lecture Series in the area of statistics and will be held in-person on Tuesday, 27th August, at 4:00pm in LT 116 (location changed) of the Mathematics and Statistics Building of the University of Glasgow, followed by a wine reception at 5:00pm.

About the speaker

Chris Wiggins is the Chief Data Scientist at the New York Times, where he has extensive experience of developing and implementing data-driven methods. He is also an Associate Professor at Columbia University where he is a senior member of the Data Science Institute. In addition to his many scientific and technical publications, he is an author, with Matthew Jones, of a recent book on "How Data Happened: A History from the Age of Reason to the Age of Algorithms”.
