Travel

To help plan your trip, we have provided key information of travel options below.

By Air

Glasgow International Airport (GLA) – Glasgow Airport has direct flight connections to all major European hubs, plus North America and the Middle East. It is located near Paisley, approximately 7 miles west of the University. There is no train station at Glasgow Airport.

  • Bus - The Glasgow Airport Express service 500 departs from Platform 1 at the Airport to Buchanan Bus Station, taking approximately 15 minutes. An Adult Single ticket costs £10.50. From Buchanan Bus Station, there are regular bus services into the West End. Alternatively, you could take the Subway from Buchanan Street. Take the Inner Circle to Hillhead Subway Station.
  • Taxis – There is a taxi rank located directly outside the airport. The fare is approximately £25-30 to drive from the airport to the University.

Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) – Prestwick Airport is approximately 33 miles from the University and offers direct flights from several European destinations.

Edinburgh International Airport (EDI) – Edinburgh Airport is 42 miles east of the University.

  • Bus - There is a bus service, Citylink Air 900, that runs directly from the airport to Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow. The bus departs every 30 minutes, with an average journey time of 1 hour.
  • Tram and Train – There is a Tram station located just outside the airport. The tram stops at both Haymarket and Waverley Train Stations. From both stations, there are trains departing to Glasgow Central/Queen Street Stations every 15-20 minutes.

By Car

We recommend using Google Maps or similar to plan your route. Glasgow is easily accessibly by major road links.

  • M8 exits for the University are Junction 18 if travelling from the south, Edinburgh and the north and Junction 19 if coming from Glasgow Airport and the west.
  • On campus parking is limited to permit holders. Car parking in the areas around the campus is extremely difficult. There are various pay & display parking spaces around the local Byres Road and Kelvin Way areas but spaces are limited. You may want to consider using the city's Subway Park & Ride This service costs around £5 and Kelvinbridge subway station has parking which is only 15 minutes’ walk away.

By Train

There are two city-centre stations, Glasgow Central Station and Glasgow Queen Street Station. There are taxi ranks outside both stations. Alternatively, you could use the Subway. Buchanan Street Subway Station is directly outside Glasgow Queen Street Station. St Enoch Subway Station is nearby Glasgow Central Station. From either subway station, take the Inner Circle to Hillhead Subway Station. The University is just a 5-minute walk from Hillhead Subway Station.
