Ernest Metzger, Douglas Professor of Civil Law at the University of Glasgow, spoke at a congress in Munich honouring the memory of Dieter Nörr (1931-2017). Prof Metzger's paper, 'Evidentiary forms without content', addressed the role of the Roman praetor and his limited patience for adjudication: litigants who might wish to make simple submissions of their respective pleas or arguments were forced instead to couch those submission as items of evidence.

Prof Metzger has posted a blog about the occasion, available from the link to the right.
