The aim of the project is the creation of a modern reference work on Roman private law, but which takes proper account, as previous works did not, of documentary evidence and procedure. The work is being edited by Ulrike Babusiaux (Zürich), Christian Baldus (Heidelberg), Wolfgang Ernst (Oxford), Franz-Stefan Meissel (Vienna), Thomas Rüfner (Trier), and Johannes Platschek (Munich).
Prof Metzger is contributing 'Die Einleitung des Verfahrens', treating in ius vocare, 'außergerichtliches' vadimonium, and editio.
