On 13 February 2023, the School of Law hosted the University of Glasgow's Symposium on Competition Law, in conjunction with the Franco-British Lawyers Society, on the topic of 'Competition law after Brexit: divergence for differentiation or parallelism for consensus'.

On 13 February 2023, the School of Law hosted the University of Glasgow's Symposium on Competition Law, in conjunction with the Franco-British Lawyers Society, on the topic of 'Competition law after Brexit: divergence for differentiation or parallelism for consensus'. 

The event brought together high profile academics, practitioners and enforcers to discuss the future of competition law in the post-Brexit era, at a domestic, European and global level. 

Speakers included Ian Forrester, KC (Former Judge at the General Court of the European Union); Professor Sir David Edward (University of Edinburgh, former Judge of the Court of Justice of the European Union); Professor Jacques Steenbergen (Former Presidence Belgian Competition Authority) in addition to a broad range of academics and practitioners from across Europe. 

Topics covered included competition law’s relevance in addressing societal questions in Scotland and the UK, as well as within the broader European context; cross-border cooperation and the relevance of UK competition law on the world stage; the future of private litigation of competition law in Scotland, learning from UK and EU experience.
