Public perceptions of sentence discounting

March 2023 - Present

Researchers: Dr Jay Gormley (PI, University of Glasgow), Prof Julian Roberts (University of Oxford), and Prof Cyrus Tata (University of Strathclyde)

This Project is funded by an award from the Scottish Sentencing Council

As part of its published guideline development methodology, the Council is committed to exploring the public’s understanding and opinions of the guidelines it creates. As the Council begins work on a guideline on sentence discounting, it wishes to seek the views of the general public on sentences following a guilty plea.

The purpose of the project is to conduct mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative) research and produce a report effectively and accurately reflecting those views on that subject matter.
