On 23 October 2021, Lady Bette, widow of the late Sir Alexander Stone, passed away. Lady Bette and Sir Alexander were generous supporters of the University and School of Law.

A successful lawyer and banker, Sir Alexander was responsible for a number of gifts and endowments at the University. The Alexander Stone Chair in Commercial Law was founded in 1985. Sir Alexander had two buildings at the University named after him, including the Sir Alexander Stone Building which houses part of the School of Law. The School's Mooting Courtroom was also made possible by the Stone family's generosity. Since his death in 1998, Lady Stone had continued to support the University by giving in Sir Alexander's memory.

The School of Law expresses its sincere condolences to the Stone family at this time.
