Professor Lindsay Farmer has been appointed as Vice-President (Publications and Conferences) to the British Academy. He will take up the role in summer 2022.
“I am delighted to be taking on this role at an exciting and challenging time for the British Academy (BA). As a national Academy for the Arts and Social Sciences, the BA supports research as well as lobbying for the development of SHAPE subjects (social sciences, humanities and the arts). It is keen to hear from and engage with scholars across the UK about how best to support and develop these areas.
A key part of my role is the award of conference funding. It is possible to claim up to £20,000 to hold conferences at the beautiful British Academy premises in London (or at other UK venues), and I would encourage colleagues to apply for this funding. The scheme will open later this year, and I will provide more information at that time. The BA also supports the publication of books in the prestigious Proceedings of the British Academy Series and this is also an excellent opportunity to reach a wide audience with your research.
Finally, the BA runs a number of funding initiatives including early- and mid-career Fellowships, and if any colleagues are thinking of applying to these schemes I would be happy to talk with them about this."
