Biography

I am a core technician in the Department of Bacteriology, with a particular focus on managing Health and Safety. Prior to becoming a technician, I was a PDRA for more than seven years. During this time, my research involved investigating host-pathogen interactions in bacteria associated with foodborne disease, and investigating the impact of bacteriophage-driven horizontal gene transfer in influencing the evolution and virulence of the clinically-relevant pathogen Staphylococcus aureus. I have extensive experience in molecular biology, including generating mutants and expression plasmids in a variety of host species, as well as considerable experience in tissue culture, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, Southern blotting, SDS-PAGE, western blotting, RNA extraction, and qRT-PCR. I am now using these skills to provide broad support to a variety of research projects across the department.
