We are thrilled to share the news that the School of Infection & Immunity's Professor Pasquale Maffia has been elected Vice President (Engagement) of the British Pharmacological Society (2024-2026).

The British Pharmacological Society is a charity with a mission to promote and advance the whole spectrum of pharmacology. We lead the way in the research and application of pharmacology around the world.

A collaborative global community, with members from more than 60 countries worldwide, the BPS leads the way in the research and application of pharmacology around the world.

Professor of Cardiovascular Immunology Pasquale will act as Chair of the Engagement Committee and as a Society non-trustee Council Member.

The society's council is comprised of Trustees who have ultimate responsibility for all aspects of the British Pharmacological Society’s activities, including management, with the exception of those matters which must be decided by a general meeting of the members.

The Council of Trustees, which meets four times a year, comprises of up to 12 individuals, with elections taking place each year, and trustees elected to serve between three to four years, depending on office.

Vice Presidents are elected by members to chair four of the Society's committees and direct and guide the remit of these committees. Vice Presidents are elected for a three-year term following one year in a deputy 'elect' Vice President position.

Head of School Professor Andy Waters said: "Many congratulations to Pasquale on his election to this prestigious position. I’m sure he will perform a fantastic job for the British Pharmacological Society."
